I try not to have a lot of stuff. In our house I have three drawers for all my
stuff, and one of those is for clothes.
One drawer contains everything I need such as passport, keys, phone
chargers and that kind of thing. The
other is full of wires.
Mrs Addman hates that wire drawer. She’d rather I got rid of all my wires so we
could put bedsheets in there or something equally useless. However, if there’s one thing that women need
to learn about relationships, it’s never to come between a man and his wires.
I’m guilty of being a hoarder when it comes to
wires. I have wires for everything. I have wires for TVs, games consoles, phones
that we no longer have, car chargers, headset wires, wires that plug into other
wires, electric wirebrush wires (probably), you name it, I’ve got it. I want to amass a collection of cables that
could be deployed to ensnare potential burglars. I’ll sell the blueprints as home security
devices.
Sometimes, when I’m alone in the house, I like to strip
naked and writhe around in my wire drawer in the dark. Or at least, I would, but I’m scared of
becoming trapped in the dense tangle of wires and suffocating to death. I reckon this is exactly what killed David
Carradine.*
Let me at 'em! |
As a couple, we tend to hoard DVDs and games. At last count, between us we own more than
450 DVDs, and I’m sure we’ve got plenty more than that after a rather busy,
entertainment filled Christmas. Mrs
Addman collects Disney DVDs and has nearly all 50+ Classics. Unfortunately, most of them came bundled with
straight to DVD sequels like Tarzan: The Burger King Years, and The Rescuers vs
Predator.
If this trend continues for the next few years they’re
going to have to cut through our back wall to save us from an avalanche of used
discs, like when they have to chainsaw obese people free from their homes.
I was wondering what weird and interesting things you lovely
people like to collect. Don’t be shy,
share with us. We’re all friends here.
*Note to brain:
David Carradine jokes? Really? In the
next couple of years I might put up some Michael Jackson jokes.
Dude, 450!?! That's a LOT of DVDs. Rivaled only by my collection of Pez dispensers!
ReplyDeleteI would estimate that we're now closer to 600, including about 5 Blu Rays. That 450 total was reached nearly 2 years ago, and we haven't counted them since.
DeletePez dispensers eh? You must have eaten a lot of sweets!
Damn, I thought my collection of 400 was impressive (and only 5 Blu-Ray too!). I am slowly amassing the Empire 5-star 500 though, so soon I shall mush your effort into the ground. Cue the evil laugh.
DeleteOut of curiosity, how do you store them?! I just bought myself a house and it's giving me a headache (although that could be just the number of DVD rainbows gleaming off the walls).
Still loving your blog!
We have an entire bookshelf doubled up with them (a six shelf Billy bookcase from IKEA). It's pretty deep, so most of our DVDs sit behind others. There are many others that are sat in piles next to the TV, and also a few floating around in our friends houses that they haven't returned yet.
DeleteAt last count...I had over 700. That too was a count I made last year. Since that time, I've acquired more, plus a ton of Blu-ray movies. I wouldn't consider myself a hoarder...but, more a miserly shut in with hopes of one day owning enough DVDs to crush the sun.
DeleteI have several baskets of journals, pens, and paper. I've got shelves of books(Like 500).
ReplyDeleteYou sounds like a true writer. I barely know which end of the pen to write with.
Deletelol, cracking up at the image of someone rolling around naked in a big mess of wires... I think they have a pill for that, just so you know. ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't want to stop. It's not like I have an addiction or anything, despite the interventions my friends have family have made over the years.
DeleteHa ha! Tarzan: The Burger King Years, and The Rescuers vs Predator.
ReplyDeleteMarvelous as always!
By the way, I too have a draw full of wires and a drawer full of plugs and fuses, I know, I need to get out more!
Then you understand my position. I always know that I'll need them, when the time comes.
Deletewait, what... i just want to know why i have like two hundred socks that don't match to anything. did you take my socks? i have about 4000 cd's in boxes and yet all these is imported into my computer...
ReplyDeleteKudos... to the challenge "K" is for Killer Post!

DeleteI certainly did not take your socks, nor did I make them into sock puppets and stage my own version "The Importance Of Being Earnest" with them. You are not entitled to any proceeds.
DeleteI also intended to rip our extensive CD collection into digital format. I managed as far as Air, then decided to wiggle around in the wire drawer some more.
Tarzan, the Burger King years was one of my favorites. My wife and I collect children, I currently have like 70 or something. It's been a while since I counted. Let's see. 1 - 2 -3. Hmm, I guess I only have three. Lot of destruction for only three.
ReplyDeleteI knew a man who collected digital children on his computer. Haven't seen him since the police raided his house at dawn.
DeleteDon't look in my junk drawer. It's the stuff of nightmares.

DeleteWow, you have a lot of Blogs. I'll try and visit them shortly.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who collects wires. I have them all conveniently tangle together for easy transportation. I have roughly 150 DVDs, but aside from that I don't really collect much. Although, I did collect all 50 U.S. State Quarters.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm diggin' the new blog layout. Thumbs up!
We can be wire buddies! At least, that's what they'll call us.
DeleteThanks. Although credit should go to Elton at Elton Says Things. He made the gorgeous banner up there.

To combat my DVD collection, I have my 1000+ DVDs in CD booklets and in those plastic tubes burnable DVDs come in! Rescuers vs Predator? Darn I missed that one!
ReplyDeleteWell, I consider myself beaten. Congratulations!
DeleteI do have about twenty PC's in the house all rather old and with several operating systems and a lot of stones shells and books and odd things that look like they might be useful somewhere and cables; PC's need cables so a lot of PC's need a lot of cables. And a big pile of 3 and a half inch floppies because one day they might be something someone might want
ReplyDeleteI think 3.5' floppies are already museum relics. In a couple of years, you'll see people exchanging them at antiques fairs.
DeleteI collect nothing and own very little. That's not true. I hoard books. There are thousands of books throughout my house. Everything else, I throw away. I don't know why, but I'll get into this mood to clean, and I'll clear out everything in drawers and cupboards.
ReplyDeleteNext time you're in this cleaning frenzy, feel free to come round to our house.
DeleteI have large collections of rocks, beads and yarn. Oh, also a small collection of pop tabs :)
ReplyDeleteButt naked amongst wires. That is the substance of Hunger Games Book 4. ;)
